Energy & Sustainability

Welcome to the Energy & Sustainability page for Aurora Public Schools!

Our team is responsible for promoting energy efficiency and resource conversation practices throughout our district in each building.

Through student-led efforts, cutting edge technology, and expert HVAC teams, our district has saved more than $500,000 in energy costs and use avoidance measures since 2014.

Sustainability can be defined in many ways while covering many facets. Officially, it was first defined in the 1980s as "the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own" (Brundtland Report, 1983).

At APS, we promote and foster behavior change through a network of student advocates working to promote action-based learning opportunities to address, study, and replicate best practices throughout their schools and communities.

The Energy & Sustainability Report (below) outlines achievements to date and pinpoint energy efficiency measures and resource conservation efforts throughout our district. The focus of our efforts are in four categories: Energy, Waste, Water, and School Gardens. As far as sustainability goes, we realize that many of these categories often overlap/complement each other and that is where we place emphasis on stewardship and action-based learning for our students.

You can keep up with progress of our goals and news from our student groups with our SMORES weekly newsletters. You can also follow us on Twitter at @apsgreenstars for up to date news!
